Kerala state is improving by leaps and bounds in various sporting disciplines in the national and international arena. Operation Olympia is also moving in full swing. Sports medicine needs of the athlet including anthropometry, diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries, sports nutrition, Sports psychology have to be met. Rajiv Gandi Sports Medicine (RGSMC) in Trivandrum is the only sports medicine fecility available under DSYA. There is a sports medicine Department in Medical College, Calicut. Hence it is proposed to start Regional Sports Medicine Centre in Kannur.
Sports Medicine bridges the gap between science and practice in the promotion of exercise and health, and in the scientific assessment, study and understanding of sports performance. Regular features include: sports injury prevention and treatment; exercise for health; drugs in sport and recommendations for training and nutrition.
