Regional Sports Medicine Centre Kannur

Kerala state is improving by leaps and bounds in various sporting disciplines in the national and international arena. Operation Olympia is also moving in full swing. Sports medicine needs of the athlet including anthropometry, diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries, sports nutrition, Sports psychology have to be met. Rajiv Gandi Sports Medicine (RGSMC) in Trivandrum is the only sports medicine fecility available under DSYA. There is a sports medicine Department in Medical College, Calicut. Hence it is proposed to start Regional Sports Medicine Centre in Kannur.

Sports Medicine bridges the gap between science and practice in the promotion of exercise and health, and in the scientific assessment, study and understanding of sports performance. Regular features include: sports injury prevention and treatment; exercise for health; drugs in sport and recommendations for training and nutrition.

Strategy

In the initial phase the sports medicine centres may be attatched to major stadium in Kannur. This will enable majority of sportsmen to access these facilities across the state.

Space for OP ,Registration and meeting area, sports medicine treatment area, Facility for assessment and measurements of athlets,Pharmacy, area for Sport Nutrition and psycological assesment ,staff room etc. Minimum of 1500sqft for sports medicine centre(either ground floor or lift, ramp facility to be provided)
