The Sports School Kannur, was started in 1976, has 190 girl students studying in different classes up to Plus Two. P T Usha was a student in the first batch, and coach O M Nambiar was the trainer in the school during that time. Even though it was a mixed school earlier, presently this is a girls school. It is a residential institution with classes from 6th to 12th standards. Vide G.O (MS).No.3 /2017/S&YA Dtd.13/2/2017 the Administrative Control of G V Raja Sports School and Kannur Sports School vested with the Director, Sports & Youth Affairs in order to bring them in to International Standard Institutions. Disciplines offered in Kannur Sports Division are Athletics, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling and Taekwondo.
